The trend is still strong. People are still painting their windows black. But it’s important to know that there’s a right way and a wrong way. We have talked about not doing it yourself—personally—because there are so many times we have gone to a customer’s house who has painted the windows, and everything has warped. Why did the window warp? The reason is simply because the wrong paint has been applied. When it comes to painting the exterior of your vinyl windows, you need to be sure to utilize a solar reflective paint. If the sun beams on your non-solar reflective painted windows, the chemicals in them are going to bond with the vinyl and attract the heat. This will cause the windows to reach extreme temperatures, causing your vinyl to warp. Another problem with painted vinyl windows is that they tend to crack and peel with time. Repainting them isn’t recommended because painting something that’s already been cracked will look crazy.

Is there a way to paint the interior of your windows? For example, painting a white window black. The answer is maybe, but you have to be very, very careful. Wherever there is movement, there will be wear. This could look really unpleasant. If you’re thinking about painting your windows, we wouldn’t suggest going with vinyl windows. Instead, we recommend going with either fiberglass, aluminum, or wooden windows. Why? Because these materials CAN be painted. You can even purchase those windows in black.
